Cardiff Half Marathon

The Cardiff Half Marathon race route starts outside Cardiff Castle; runners head past the Principality Stadium and through city streets toward Penarth. The course then takes participants across the Cardiff Bay Barrage, offering waterfront views and sights like the Wales Millennium Centre and the Norwegian Church. The final miles head back toward the city center, passing Cardiff University and ending at King Edward VII Avenue, near the Civic Centre.

Getting to Cardiff
Cardiff Airport (CWL): Located around 20 km southwest of the city center and serves domestic and European flights.
• Train: The Cardiff Airport Express (VIA Rhoose Station) connects the airport to Cardiff Central Station in around 35 minutes, with a short shuttle bus between the terminal and station.
• Bus: The T9 Airport Express runs directly from the airport to Cardiff city center in about 35 minutes).
• Taxi: Taxis are readily available outside the terminal. The journey into the city center takes around 25–30 minutes and costs approximately £30–£40.

Getting around Cardiff
• Train: Cardiff Central Station is the city’s main transport hub, with frequent local and regional services connecting nearby towns and suburbs, as well as cities like London, Bristol, and Swansea.

• Bus: There’s an extensive network throughout the city and surrounding areas, with frequent services to key landmarks, attractions, and the marathon start/finish zones. Contactless payment is accepted on board.

• Taxis: Licensed black cabs and private hire taxis are widely available across the city. Ride-hailing apps like Uber and Bolt also operate in Cardiff.

• Cycling & Walking: Cardiff is a compact and pedestrian-friendly city, with most marathon-related locations easily walkable. Dedicated cycle lanes and rental options, such as Nextbike, make cycling a convenient way to explore.

This morning our reps will lead you on a guided 5K shakeout run around the surrounding area of Cardiff. Next is our pre-race briefings for the Oysho Cardiff Half Marathon. Our experienced team will go over what to expect and you’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions. Then, we’ll escort you to the race expo to browse merchandise and collect your race bib. Today you will also be able to enjoy a guided walking tour around Cardiff. (Timings for the tour will be confirmed in your itinerary.)

Race day in Cardiff! Best of luck to all runners. Spectators can join us at a designated cheer point to support the runners. After the race, celebrate your achievements with Team Sports Tours during our post-race celebration. Don’t forget to bring your medal!
